《Damnation》這款遊戲採用了第三人 稱視角和第一人稱視角相混合的系統， 使其在風格上更加類
似於《分裂細胞(Splinter Cell)》、《光暈(Halo)》、《半條命(Half-Life)》 系列遊戲中所使用
的遊戲元素，包括動作、冒險以及潛行等；同時也包含了類似索尼發行的遊戲《戰神(God of War)》
中的解謎成分。因此，《Damnation》遊戲的設計人員就擁有更多的自由來設計複雜及逼真的遊戲環
境。畢竟玩家並不喜歡遊戲中只是充滿了跳躍、開門、解鎖、射擊這類簡單的方式。《Damnation》
可以讓玩家在遊戲中使用近似《古墓麗影》中的Lara Croft，或者《波斯王子》中的遊戲探險方式。
但是在遇到戰鬥時，卻可以像Gordon Freeman或Master Chief利用自身的靈巧和速度。
　　《Damnation》的背景設定在20世紀初期，內戰讓各種暴行肆虐。由於戰時的經濟加速，引發了
新的工業革命。南北部之間的消耗戰也讓他們所擁有的資源逐漸枯竭， 也因此讓這敵對雙方向西部
挺進，以各自的理由尋找需要的東西。 在那裡，他們發現了由富有的企業家W.D. Prescott創立的
Prescott蒸汽工業。而對於由征服內部產生的權力真空產生了濃厚的興趣和關注。 Prescott則依靠
向雙方同時提供日益增長的戰爭機器來保持敵對雙方勢力的不均衡發展。 所提供的物品中甚至包含
最新型的「電腦人」——一種相當具有危險性的類人機器。

For more than 20 years, the Coalition and the Nationalists fought their
bloody war. With war comes technology, and it developed at an astonishing
pace. The two armies fought each other with ever more powerful weapons, yet
neither side gained the advantage. Ultimately, the two sides ran out of
funds, willpower, and men. As the armies collapsed leaving the country in
anarchy, a new power rose. Sweeping down on the exhausted country, PSI's
forces obliterated the remaining armies and began its conquest of the East.
Now, the Western territories, mostly unaffected by the civil war, find
themselves suddenly defenseless against a new and quickly growing east
coast power.
